Our Classes

Classes start from the age of 5 (Pee Wee’s) all the way through to Adults.

Seiko-Kai teaches primarily traditional karate techniques based on self-defence, but we also teach

the sporting aspect of karate.

Our students study self-defence, body movement, kata and kumite (fighting). We aim to install self-esteem, confidence and discipline to our students. The training is challenging both physically and mentally, and best of all it's extremely interesting.

Mission Statement, Seiko-Kai Karate’s club motto is “Spirit Comes from Within”. We aim to help you develop true Karate spirit and pride ourselves on upholding the Japanese way, mixed with a Western approach in our training centre.

A benefit of having a fulltime Karate Centre is that classes are conducted for specific age groups. This enables everyone to enjoy the benefits that Karate has to offer.

Our classes are as follows:-

Pee Wee Tigers 5-7 years

Karate Kids 8-12 years

Teens and Adults

Private Lessons.

Each class is designed specifically for the ages being taught. This is also shown in the different belt colour structures used for the various classes, reward incentives and merit badges used.

Pee Wee Tigers

Pee Wee’s ages 5-7

We teach a mixture of self-defence, kata (patterns) and sport karate to our Pee Wee students who have begun to grasp the basics of karate.

The emphasis is on physical exercise and self-control. Our students learn balance co-ordination, self-respect, confidence, discipline and how to avoid confrontation before it becomes physical.

However if necessary, they learn how to control an attacker using kicks, punches, strikes and techniques of restraint.

We understand that Pee Wee’s can be slower learners and also require a different style of teaching and a shorter class to cater for their short attention span.

The classes are a mixture of traditional and modern teaching methods with the emphasis on increasing self-confidence while still ensuring that the etiquette and discipline expected in Karate is followed.

Grading’s (Belt Testing)

There are 9 colour belt levels for Pee Wee’s. In order for the student to see that they are progressing, it is standard practice in Karate for belts to be issued once a student reaches an applicable level and passes the prescribed tests.

As further incentive to keep Pee Wees motivated, small tests are taken each week to ensure they are progressing. Pee Wees must obtain 10 stripes on their belt to be enable them to test for the next level.

Karate Kids

Grading’s (Belt Testing)

There are 16 colour belt levels for Junior’s below black belt level. For the Juniors 4 stripes are also required before they can attempt their next colour belt level. These tests are taken every two to three weeks to ensure they are progressing and learning our karate style.

Actual Belt testing is held on average every three months (for those who are considered ready). The grading fee includes the test, belt and issuance of grade certificate recognised by the Japan Headquarters.

“It should be noted that our karate group does not issue full black belts to anyone under the age of 16. We do however issue Junior Black Belts when seen as appropriate. Upon a student turning 16 years of age, they must retest under Adult grading guidelines to receive full Black Belt status.”
